Meet Vicki

Workforce Challenge
Vicki worked in the construction industry as a Purchasing Agent but was laid off after the housing crash. As a mature worker, she struggled to compete in the labor market and the high unemployment rate made acquiring a new position even more challenging. She visited Alliance Worknet (a WIA services provider) on the advice of a friend. At that time, she was very discouraged and felt she had lost her identity and self-worth by not being able to work, and she needed job search assistance.
Workforce Solution
At Alliance Worknet, Vicki met with a consultant who provided one-on-one job search assistance, coaching her on job search skills and strategies such as resume writing, job matching, networking, mock interviewing, receiving notifications of job fairs, and obtaining typing certification. Her consultant continued to provide Vicki job leads from Alliance Worknet job boards and Internet and provided encouragement to stay positive and focused on her goal. After a time, Vicki was selected for an Alliance Worknet Paid Internship and was placed at a work site. During the internship, she was able to learn additional job skills that enabled her to be more marketable.
Outcomes & Benefits
After completing the paid internship program the employer decided to extend her training session by offering her an On-the-Job Training contract. This training has given Vicki the confidence and skills needed to become marketable in today's workplace. She now enjoys full time work.
