Workforce Success Story Submitted By:
Madera County Workforce Investment Board
A single mother of two young children, Catherine relocated from Southern California to the Oakhurst area in search of better schools and a safer community. With the little savings she had dwindling quickly, she was in desperate need of work or some assistance. The immediate solution to this was applying for services with the Department of Social Services, where she was accepted for PACT, a non-paid experience which gives participants pre-employment activity hours in order to receive benefits.
After registering with Madera County Workforce Development, Catherine took WorkKeys, scoring high marks on the assessment for work readiness. Talent testing indicated her strong propensity for secretarial or customer service work. Catherine attended the resume workshop, where she updated and created a more professional resume, and was given job leads, which she followed up on faithfully, with little luck. Her hard work paid off and she finally received a response to her resume.
Outcomes & Benefits
On May 19, 2010, Catherine was hired as Receptionist for a local financial and insurance firm. She finds the work both challenging and interesting, and looks forward to continued success and growth within this organization.
