Meet April

Workforce Challenge

April was a single mother of two sons, and was also caring for her pre-teen brother. She wanted to enroll in college and obtain training that would help her land a steady job and provide for her family. She came to the South Central Workforce Council for assistance.

Workforce Solution

April was enrolled into the WIA Adult Program and pursued training at South Central College in Information Technology. April struggled with reliable transportation while attending classes, taking the bus to campus most of the time, even though the schedule was inconvenient.

April did not let these barriers get in the way. She remained positive all the time even when it seemed like nothing was going right. April’s smile and attitude can brighten anyone’s day!

Outcomes & Benefits

April graduated in May 2010, with a double major in Information Systems and Networking Services. Her professor encouraged her to apply for a position with Coughlan Companies. She was hired at Coughlan Companies as a Service Desk Analyst shortly after graduation. April has been working for the company for a year and loves her job!
