Meet Katlyn

Workforce Challenge

At 14 years old, Katlyn was expecting a child. She also was searching for work, but because of her age, could not get hired. Two years later, she was meeting with her Social Worker when he explained to her how Workforce Development, Inc. (WDI) could help her by teaching her job search skills and other job techniques. As soon as he gave her the contact information, she decided to stop by our office. By then, she was just beginning High School.

Workforce Solution

Katlyn met weekly with her Career Counselor, who helped her look for jobs, prepare for interviews, and create a resume. Katlyn was no longer scared to go out and look for jobs. Though Katlyn didn’t have much luck applying for jobs on her own, her Career Counselor helped her secure a work experience position at a local school. Katlyn’s work experience helped her develop her skills and build her resume.

When her work experience position ended, Katlyn decided to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. She wasn’t sure how she would pay for the certification exam, but her WDI Career Counselor was able to help provide assistance to cover the costs of her exam. Katlyn passed the CNA exam.

Outcomes & Benefits

Today, Katlyn is working as a full time Certified Nursing Assistant at a local care facility. She absolutely loves the environment, the residents and her co-workers. Katlyn credits the WDI staff for picking her up when she was almost at the point of giving up. “They gave me the opportunity to make something out of myself and in the long run, they helped me be successful. “
