Meet Grace

Workforce Challenge

Grace had been receiving public assistance for over three years. She had a poor work history, but was interested in the Healthcare Academy offered by Workforce Development, Inc, and asked about enrollment in this program.

Workforce Solution

The Healthcare Academy is an online learning center that focuses on skills needed for work as a nursing assistant in a long term care or skilled nursing facility. Students go on to take the statewide certification exam to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Grace passed the background check and qualified for enrollment.

While enrolled, Grace did very well, and at the end of her coursework, passed both the Healthcare Academy and CNA exam with excellent scores. She was very proud of herself! Less than one month later Grace got a job at a local healthcare facility.

Outcomes & Benefits

After receiving 47 months of assistance, Grace's case was closed because she no longer qualified for benefits. Her new job pays a living wage and Grace is supporting herself. "It's nice to finally be able to do things on my own," Grace shared in a letter. She also is grateful to the WorkForce Center staff: "Thank you for all your help. Without you, I wouldn't be where I am today. I love my job!
