In 2008, Kerry was laid off from his position as a building manager. Previously, he had been employed primarily in construction jobs. Due to the decline in the local economy and construction industry, he was unable to find a job. Kerry had exhausted his unemployment insurance benefits and was left without any source of income.
Central Oregon Intergovernmental Council (COIC), WorkSource Bend, supported Kerry with job search assistance, and helped him to submit his resume to companies for potential On-the-Job Training contracts (OJT). Kerry was particularly interested in pursuing something in the computer science industry after researching the labor market. Kerry was eventually hired for an OJT with a local physical therapy company as an Internet Marketing Manager. Kerry also supportive assistance via Oregon Workforce Alliance dollars when beginning his OJT. This money helped cover some of his bills until he began full time employment.
Outcomes & Benefits
Kerry is currently employed as an Internet Marketing Manager, and is receiving training in computer sciences and social media. He said his job is going very well, and he is constantly learning new information. Congratulations, Kerry!
