Workforce Success Story Submitted By:
Southeast Los Angeles County Workforce Investment Board
Ever since leaving High School, Augustine had a difficult time finding a stable job, especially in the current economy. At the age of 18 he got a job as a facility technician, which went well, but was temporary. It ended as fast as he was employed. He then found a job as a warehouse worker where he was employed for a while until the business went under. For about a year and half after that he struggled, barely making ends meet with various jobs and endlessly searching for steady work.
As he searched for jobs daily, Augustine eventually learned about the Southeast Los Angeles County WIB in Cerritos and visited the center for assistance. There, he was assigned a case manager who explained opportunities for training that would help Augustine be more marketable. After going through orientation and completing paperwork, Augustine was approved for financial aid to attend NTMA (National Tooling and Machining Association) Training Centers for a course in Machining. Calling the SELACO WIB "an absolute blessing," Augustine began his training.
Outcomes & Benefits
In only seven months, Augustine completed the training course and began looking for a job, which he landed less than a month later. "I now have a very good and well-paying career where I am excelling every day and continuing to learn," said Augustine. "I have been working at Flathers Precisions, Inc. since April 19, 2010 and have continued to grow and excel in my field; I have received 3 raises, full benefits and one promotion since I have been here. Without the services, I would still be in the unemployed line, struggling and striving for something better for myself. I will forever appreciate SELACO WIB and all the wonderful staff.”
