Pacific Gateway Workforce Investment Network
Chris is a veteran who recently separated from military service and needed to find a job as a civilian. He visited the Pacific Gateway Workforce Investment Network where he met with knowledgeable staff members, who are also veterans. He was interested in the a job in Information Technology, but lacked necessary certifications that would make him more marketable.
As a veteran, Chris qualified for training assistance through the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act and the Veteran Employment-related Assistance Program (VEAP). VEAP services are provided by funding through the federal Workforce Investment Act and distributed by the State of California Governor’s Office.
Chris participated in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funded workshops at the CTC – specifically developing a résumé and online job search training. His labor market research helped him understand what skills he needed to qualify for an IT position.
“It was motivational,” Newendorp said. “It was an opportunity to increase my job search skills and, with the available grant, I could get specific IT training.”
Network Program specialists assisted Mr. Newendorp in obtaining gas vouchers to help with his transportation between work and school. “Whatever I needed to know, Pacific Gateway was there for me,” said Mr. Newendorp.
