Meet Kiara

Workforce Challenge

Kiara was unemployed after getting laid off from her job as a medical assistant where she was making $13.00 an hour. She was living with her grandparents because she couldn't afford to live on her own. She decided to go for the next step in her career since she lost her job as an MA and she wasn't making a sustainable wage in her field, but she didn't have the means to pay for this training on her own.

Workforce Solution

Kiara received a Workforce Investment Act scholarship and was able to complete her LPN training. She is very grateful for the opportunity she otherwise wouldn't have had

Outcomes & Benefits

Kiara graduated at the end of October 2014 and passed her boards at the beginning of January 2015. She secured a full-time LPN position in February 2015 making $23.00 an hour. Thanks to this increase in income, she is now on her own and doesn't have to rely on her grandparents for housing assistance.
