Meet Betty

Workforce Challenge

After a lengthy cross-country travel trip, Betty developed large gaps in her employment history. Betty had also been a recent victim of stroke and was receiving disability benefits. However, Betty decided she was ready to go back to work but had been unable to find a job. Betty felt her age and lack of computer skills were barriers to employment that she could not overcome on her own.

Workforce Solution

Betty came to the Mesa County Workforce Center for assistance. After a skills review, Betty was referred to an open position with Crossmark as a product demonstrator. However, Betty did not have the needed computer skills to even apply for the job. Betty was enrolled in computer classes at the library and received one-on-one coaching to on how to apply.

Outcomes & Benefits

Betty was hired by Crossmark and now has extra income to help her live more comfortably. In addition, Betty stated that she "enjoys going to work and now has more self confidence". With the extra income, Betty plans to go on a cruise in the Caribbean and to move closer to family. Congratulations, Betty!
