Meet Dawn

Workforce Challenge

At a career fair event at the Pueblo Community College-Fremont Campus, a recent graduate, named Dawn, spoke with one of the Canon City Workforce Center team members, John. She expressed that while she was very impressed with the event, she felt that she was at a point in her life where she didn't just want a job; she really wanted a career using her proven customer service skills to help people and make a difference in their lives.

Workforce Solution

John had just heard about a case manager position at the Workforce Investment Act program that is administered through the State's contractor, the Upper Arkansas Area Council of Governments. John was adamant in his belief that Dawn's maturity, friendly demeanor, and customer-centered skills would make her an ideal candidate for the position. John was relentless in his encouragement in persuading Dawn to apply for the position.

Outcomes & Benefits

Dawn heeded John's sage advice and applied for the position at the Upper Arkansas Area Council Of Governments in the WIA program as an Employment Specialist. She had an interview and started working on May 11, 2015.

Dawn says, "I am very thankful that I stopped at the Canon City Workforce Center's table at the Pueblo Community College-Fremont Campus Career Fair and spoke with John, where opportunity knocked for me. Cheerfully, Dawn."
