Meet Margaret

Workforce Challenge

Margaret was often told that she was over qualified for positions due to her educational background. She also felt that her age (58) played a factor in consistently being denied positions. At the time of her enrollment, she had been unemployed for approximately seven months.

Workforce Solution

Her Workforce Investment Act Adult program case manager, contacted Margaret as part of the governor's long-term unemployment initiative. They met and began a plan of action. She was referred to attend the resume and interview workshops while her case manager began working with the Business Services Unit to seek an on-the-job training opportunity for her.

Outcomes & Benefits

By attending the workshops, Margaret was able to brush up her soft skills and her resume. After being provided with various job referrals, Margaret began to receive calls to interview. She was offered and accepted an on-the-job training with a local municipality earning a wage of $21.23 an hour.
