Meet Dale

Workforce Challenge

Dale never thought his life would turn the way it did. He'd been working for ten years as a bus driver and figured he would have that job until he retired. One day, some of the kids he transported in his bus stopped by his apartment to say hello, spent a few minutes talking and left. No big deal. Four weeks later Dale was terminated for a school district rule that Dale was unaware of that prohibits district employees from having students at their homes. Dale loved his job and took its loss hard. He started drinking heavily and gave up hope. He pretty much hit bottom. After being helped by most of the support agencies in Salida, Dale came to the Salida Workforce Center for help in finding employment.

Workforce Solution

A Vietnam-era United States Army Veteran, Dale received priority of service in preparing a professional resume, conducting a comprehensive job search, and finally landed a job at a nationally-based retail establishment. Dale joined Alcoholics Anonymous and through much hard work and diligence on his part, reached sobriety and became a model employee. Dale wanted more. He wanted financial independence and his honor restored. Through the Workforce Investment Act program at the Salida Workforce Center, Dale was provided work clothing and the necessary equipment in order to move up to a truck driving job that would pay him $7.00 more per hour than he was making at his retail job.

Outcomes & Benefits

Although the road was long and painful, Dale is now employed at a job that pays even more than his previous bus driving job. Thanks to his hard work and the services at the Salida Workforce Center, this U.S. Army Veteran is on his way to success.
