Meet Michael

Workforce Challenge

Michael came to the Adams County Workforce & Business Center in March 2015 seeking assistance with Commercial Driver's License training. When Michael came to the workforce center he had just received a layoff notice from his job of 13 years working as maintenance technician, where he was making $23.00/hr. Just as he received the layoff notice from his employer he received a notice from his doctor that he needed to change careers due to a lung disease, because the dust involved in the maintenance field was making his health issues worse.

Workforce Solution

Michael received a Workforce Investment Act (WIA) scholarship and was able to pursue the requested training. He graduated at the end of June 2015 and before he finished his training he received a job offer.

Outcomes & Benefits

He secured a local job making $27.00/hr. Thanks to the assistance received from WIA, Michael was not only able to secure employment in a field that will not interfere with his health but he was even able to increase his income.
He is very grateful for assistance received and expressed his gratitude by saying, “I want to thank you for giving me this opportunity! It means the world to me and my family to be able to start a career in a field that I truly enjoy. I can't thank you enough!”
