Meet Jason

Workforce Challenge

When he was 17, Jason was homeless and was staying at Urban Peak, an emergency shelter and temporary housing facility for homeless youth in the Pikes Peak region. While at Urban peak, he was working part-time at a fast food restaurant but wanted to find full-time employment and was seeking a career path that would allow him to grow and become self-sufficient. One major barrier for Jason in finding full-time employment was his lack of experience. Jason’s dream was to be a school bus driver.

Workforce Solution

Several years later, Jason was referred to the Pikes Peak Workforce Center. He was enrolled in the Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA) Youth Program and participated in the “Bring Your A Game” workshop - a workshop that teaches work readiness skills. The WIOA program enabled Jason to attend the US Truck Driving School and paid for Jason’s training and helped him with transportation expenses to and from class.

Outcomes & Benefits

After earning his commercial driver's license, Jason was hired by Colorado Springs School District 20 as a school bus driver. Jason is thankful for the help he received through WIOA. His future is definitely looking brighter!
