Workforce Challenge

Cristal, a senior at Northridge High School, was facing a very important interview for the Daniels Fund Scholarship. Only 146 seniors statewide receive this full ride scholarship to the college of their choice. Cristal had to stand out as she is a very shy individual and already lost a scholarship or two to her twin sister, who is more outgoing. She also did not want to burden her parents as they are in the United States on work permits and earn very little.

Workforce Solution

The Dream Team, a community team that assist first generation students arranged for all Weld County Daniels Fund candidates to attend a mock interview before their big day. Cristal was lucky enough to have been interviewed by ESWC's Leslie Galindo. She provided lots of constructive feedback and even offered assistance with Cristal's resume to show her in the best light; Cristal gladly accepted.

Outcomes & Benefits

Through the feedback given at the mock interview Cristal was able to work on her interview skills and highlight her positive qualities in a one page resume. On April 13th she and her twin sister were featured in the Greeley Tribune as being two of the 146 statewide Daniels Fund Scholars. She is lucky to not have lost this one to her twin but be able to share the glory of them both being awarded. Cristal has chosen to attend the University of Northern Colorado and wishes her sister the best at DU
