Summer Youth Employment Program
Workforce Challenge
In Tennessee, as is the case around the country, there are limited job opportunities for adults which means there are even fewer job opportunities available for youth. Since youth are not as able to get the practical work experience they need to begin their careers, they are lacking the necessary skills to enter the workforce.
Workforce Solution
Through the Summer Youth Employment Program of 2009, the Nashville Career Advancement Center used American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds to connect area youth with employment opportunities. The jobs allowed participating youth to have the opportunity to gain the job readiness skills and work experience they needed to enter the workforce.
Outcomes & Benefits
This program provided 1,100 area youth with employment they would have otherwise not been able to obtain. With meaningful summer job experience, the participating youth now have some career exposure to guide their future employment decisions.
