Meet Amy

Workforce Challenge
Amy Ellis of Trenton, TN, served as a Lead in the Shipping Department of an apparel manufacturing company for 9 years before the company closed the plant. Amy was now unemployed and wanted to find work in a more stable field, but knew that she might need help to do so. She was considering a career change to healthcare, and visited the Tennessee Career Center for assistance.
Workforce Solution
The Tennessee Career Center at Humboldt granted Amy a Workforce Investment Scholarship to assist her in attaining her goal of climbing the healthcare career ladder. She enrolled in the Patient Care Technician program at the Tennessee Technology Center Ripley-Alamo Campus in May, 2010.
“Amy stayed focused on her goal of graduating and securing employment,” said Lindsey Heglar, Career Center Case Manager. “She was an excellent student.”
Outcomes & Benefits
Just 8 months after starting her first day, Amy graduated, earning a Patient Care Technician Diploma, along with a certificate from the National Healthcare Association, an Electrocardiography Technician Certificate, and a Phlebotomy Certificate.
Amy passed the state board exam in August 2010, and began her career as a Rehabilitation Technician with Select Medical Corporation at Bells Nursing Home in Alamo, TN.
