Meet Amy

Workforce Challenge

Amy is a single parent of two children who recently graduated from Garnet Vo-Tech in June of 2010 with a Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) degree. She was now ready to find a job and needed help writing her resume and preparing for interviews.

Workforce Solution

Through the support of WIA funds Amy was able to attend an Excel Job Readiness Class at the Garnet Career Center. In this class Amy received extensive instruction in job searching skills including: writing a resume, writing a cover letter, interviewing practice and writing thank-you notes as a follow-up to an interview.

Outcomes & Benefits

Amy is now employed by Broadmoor Assisted Living and well on her way to becoming a productive member of her community. By being a working parent she is setting a good example for her children and demonstrating that work is good, and that being responsible for herself and family is the kind of behavior expected of everyone.
