Meet Jiselle

Workforce Challenge

Jiselle was enrolled in the Youth Succeed program to get assistance with high school graduation needs. Jiselle had recently lost her father due to an unexpected illness and her family struggled to get her to school. Jiselle needed help with transportation to and from school, high school parking lot fee, guidance in assisting her mother with TANF communication, school fees, college scholarships, and financial aid.

Workforce Solution

Jiselle was provided transportation assistance for school, which enabled her to focus on her studies. Case manager worked with program management and TANF program to assist family with mortgage needs and how to manage TANF requirements since Jiselle was assisting her mother with their case due to language barrier. Case manager worked with Jiselle on finding scholarships for her college entry and reviewed financial aid awards to guide her for fall entry. The program also paid for her international baccalaureate (IB) testing fees incurred during her four years of high school.

Outcomes & Benefits

Jiselle successfully graduated from Thornton High School in May 2017 as the IB and overall valedictorian for the entire high school. Jiselle has been awarded several scholarships through the University of Colorado-Boulder where she will be attending fall 2017 to begin her career pathway in Electrical Engineering. Jiselle is an exceptional young lady. She is strong, determined, and dedicated to completing her higher education and will be one successful Millennial. Congratulations, Jiselle!
