Meet Antonio

Workforce Challenge

Antonio was employed as a Class A truck driver for an oil and gas company for several years. He suffered a workplace injury requiring surgery and a lengthy recovery. Ongoing physical limitations related to the injury prevented him from returning to the truck driving profession. After a prolonged leave of absence from the workforce, facing long term unemployment and a career change, Antonio knew he would benefit from assistance with his endeavor to seek new employment.

Workforce Solution

Initially, Antonio received services from Employment Services’ Resource Room staff and was referred to the WIOA program. He and his case manager developed an Employment Plan and agreed that the focus of their work together would be job search and career services. Antonio shared that he had past experience in jewelry repair and that he had credentials in Gemology. As he enjoyed these work experiences and had relevant skills, jewelry store was added to his job search. As this represented a significant career change, he and his case manager began work on writing a new resume targeted toward customer service, sales and jewelry repair and began filling out online applications.

Outcomes & Benefits

Charlotte, his case manager, assisted with post-application follow up and called the jewelry store. She was referred to the district manager who could not find Antonio's application and asked that his resume be sent to her. After reviewing his resume, she called Antonio for an interview and then a second interview. He was soon offered the position and is pleased with his new job. He's excited to use his new skills when he later applies for promotional opportunities with the company.
