Meet Robert

Workforce Challenge

Robert overcame many barriers to follow his career path as an addiction counselor. Robert visited the Steamboat Springs Workforce Center multiple times when he was very upset and very agitated. DVR was helping him as well. He expressed he was under drug testing while on probation. He was also required to participate in mandatory counseling and drug rehab. He did not have secure housing. He was very forward during conversations with both his body language and voice. His soft skills had been very disrupted.

Workforce Solution

The Steamboat Springs Workforce Center staff worked to help him develop his soft skills including interviewing skills. Staff also discussed applying for a position at a mental health facility. He expressed his real goal was to be an Addiction Counselor. After these meetings, we approached DVR, and they changed his goal to paying for the addiction counseling classes. Title I would pay for courses at the community college to assist him in gaining his AA degree.

Outcomes & Benefits

Robert continues to work at the mental health facility as an Addiction Technician in the Residential Program and is completing the Addiction Counseling Level courses.
