Northern Arizona Council of Governments
Verenice is a younger youth that had received her High School diploma when she came to the Northern Arizona Council Of Governments. She is being raised by a single mother who has worked as a CNA and is a great role model for her daughter. While Verenice is looking to mirror her mother’s career in health care, she wanted to learn broad-based skills that could transfer to any occupation.
Through NACOG, Verenice attended a RISE program (Retail Industry Skills Enhancement) which specializes in teaching customer service including 18 essential basic, intermediate and managerial customer service skills. Verenice passed with flying colors and earned a National Retail Certificate in Customer Service from the National Retail Federation.
Outcomes & Benefits
With her newly acquired certification, Verenice obtained employment at a nearby retail store, while still pursuing her interests in the health care field. At 18 years old, Verenice has learned the values of good attendance and excellent written and verbal communication—skills that are transferrable to any occupation.
