Meet Destini

Workforce Challenge

Destini is teenager in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She is worried about dealing with the violence in her area and peers who have little life ambition. She is determined to prosper into adulthood.

Workforce Solution

The Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board (MAWIB), in partnership with the Mayor's office, has an active summer youth employment program, Earn and Learn. Destini was able to participate in the program for two summers. This last year she was an active member of the Milwaukee County Park Department's Special Events office where she had the opportunity to grow her job skills and develop a strong work ethic. More importantly, she learned to build confidence in herself.

Outcomes & Benefits

Destini was motivated to write a thank you letter to her employer and to the MAWIB. In this letter she stated that, without this program she would not have gained various skills, such as punctuality, organization, professionalism, problem solving, teamwork, decision-making, and hospitality. She gained work experience, career guidance, savings towards college and is now enrolled at Rust College in Holly Springs, MS with an emphasis on management.
