Workforce Success Story Submitted By:
Workforce Development Board of South Central Wisconsin
Madison resident Ethel Randle had been out of work for a long time, and was becoming frustrated with the job market. She was searching for an entry-level clerical position, but was having a hard time due to her limited experience in an office setting and lack of clerical skills. She also found that the longer she was out of work, the more difficult it became to get re-hired.
Ethel found an opportunity through her local Job Center and the Workforce Investment Act Program to use job search services and training at Madison College to improve her typing and secretarial skills. After she successfully completed her skills courses, she also participated in the Workforce Development Board of South Central Wisconsin’s Transitional Jobs program, where she would be placed in a job position for up to six months to build employment skills and experience.
Outcomes & Benefits
Ethel has been in her Transitional Jobs position at the Dane County Executive Office since November 2010, and she is quickly gaining job skills, confidence, and the experience she needs to seek a permanent clerical position after her current temporary position. She is grateful for the opportunities that the WIA and Transitional Jobs programs have given her, and she is eager to advance in this new career path.
“This opportunity has been a blessing,” she said. “This is just the chance I needed."
