Meet Tracy

Workforce Challenge
Soft spoken, strong willed, 20-year-old mother Tracy Lovette visited the Columbus County JobLink Career Center in May 2007. She had earned a position in the Practical Nursing Program at Southeastern Community College and was at long last ‘on her way to realizing her dream career’. Tracy wondered how the WIA/Keys 2 Success Youth Program of the Columbus County JobLink Career Center might help her in her goal.
Workforce Solution
In her initial assessment, Tracy said, "I have chosen nursing as my career. Nursing is an act of caring and providing for others. I want to make a difference! Just knowing that I have made a difference in one person’s life, [would make] my life’s dream a success. Tracy was enrolled in the Keys 2 Success program, which assisted with tuition, fees, books, childcare, and transportation”. She juggled a very busy schedule wearing many hats: a single mom of a toddler; part-time employee at Loris Healthcare System; and full-time nursing student. Although she was faced with many challenges, she did not consider giving up. Staff at JobLink Career Center provided emotional support and encouragement along the way.
Outcomes & Benefits
Tracy completed the Practical Nursing Program in May 2009, and immediately passed the North Carolina Board of Nursing Licensure Examination. She began working full-time with benefits at Loris Extended Care Center in Loris, South Carolina as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Two years later, Tracy has realized and still enjoys her “dream career.”
