Meet Steve

Workforce Challenge

Steve retired from the Navy in 2003. His transition to civilian life was very difficult and he was unable to find a job using his advanced technical skills. He started his own business, but faltering economic conditions made the business unsustainable. After closing his business, Steve took a job as a commercial driver and started school for Wind Energy Technology. During his last semester, Steve found that some classes were only offered during the day and he couldn't work and take the classes.

Workforce Solution

With help from the Veterans Workforce Investment Program (VWIP) Steve was able to quit his day job, take 22 credit hours, complete his internship and finish his training program.

Outcomes & Benefits

Soon after updating his resume with the degree completion, Steve started receiving job offers. He accepted a lucrative offer from a major company at a very satisfactory wage with benefits and promotion opportunities.
