Meet Richard

Workforce Challenge

Richard, a married father of four was relying on Unemployment Insurance and Food Assistance to provide for his family after being laid off.

Workforce Solution

Richard received assistance from the WIA program and completed training in truck driving during December 2011. After receiving his CDL he was referred to the Workforce Center's business team for job placement assistance. The business team helped Richard develop his resume and search for jobs. He also attended resume writing workshops. Despite having his CDL, Richard lacked experience in the truck driving industry making it hard to secure employment. The business team recommended that he start with a temp agency to obtain the driving experience employers were looking for.

Outcomes & Benefits

Richard obtained employment as a driver through a temp agency working for a local shipping company. After only 60 days of temporary employment he was offered a permanent, full time job making $12.00 per hour plus additional compensation for stops and long hauls.
