Meet Katrina

Workforce Challenge

Katrina was underemployed and struggling as a single mother working part time as an EMT. She was interested in becoming an RN but lacked the required financial resources to be able to return to school and reach this goal.

Workforce Solution

The KHPOP program helped Katrina with the financial resources needed to get started with her healthcare training. She enrolled at Pratt Community College in the EMT to RN program. Katrina successfully completed her classroom training in May 2012 and passed her RN exam in June.

Outcomes & Benefits

Shortly after receiving her license she received four different job offers. She is now working part time with the ambulance service and part time as an RN providing healthcare services to inmates incarcerated in local facilities. Katrina is very thankful for her current positions, but she has set a long term goal for herself to obtain an RN position at the local Veteran's Hospital.
