Workforce Challenge

Donna lived in a very small Kansas town. Employment opportunities were hard to come by, even for individuals with education and experience. She was most comfortable working in an environment that had nothing to do with computers/technology. Although she held a GED she read at below an 8th grade level. She had been out of the workforce for over a year and had no luck finding employment. Also she felt her advanced age was keeping her from finding work.

Workforce Solution

Donna enrolled into the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP). While on SCSEP she was assigned to perform 20 hours per week of paid community service at the local congregate meal site for seniors. She was also referred to Dress for Success.

Outcomes & Benefits

After just a few weeks of being on SCSEP, she applied for a site manager job at the congregate meal site where she was assigned. As a result of the training she had already received while on SCSEP, and the excellent work ethic she displayed, she was hired right away.
