Felicia

Workforce Challenge

Felicia, a single mother raising a family of five, was struggling to make ends meet on a limited part-time income.

Felicia was in need of full-time employment as soon as possible. Felicia had an LPN credential, but needed an advanced nursing credential to earn enough money to support her family.

Workforce Solution

A career coach at the Wichita Workforce Center helped Felicia complete eligibility for tuition assistance and helped with her resume and job search.

Felicia enrolled in the RN program at Hutchinson Community College and received assistance with her tuition, fees, materials and supplies. In addition, she received assistance with various supportive services to eliminate barriers to training, such as, housing and utility assistance, childcare and transportation expenses.

Once she completed her RN program, she was referred to the Workforce Center's Business Team to help her find a full-time position.

Outcomes & Benefits

Felicia is currently working as an LPN at a local healthcare and rehabilitation center. She will be promoted to an RN as soon as a position becomes available. Felicia has committed to a nursing career pathway and was recently accepted into a BSN program.
