Workforce Challenge

Christal, a single-mother of two children, received public assistance and was underemployed as a CNA when she sought assistance from the Wichita Workforce Center. She was in need of more advanced nursing credentials and an increase in pay to provide for her family.

Workforce Solution

Christal enrolled in the Kansas Health Profession Opportunity Project (KHPOP) and began the CMA program at Midwestern College. Through KHPOP she received assistance with tuition, fees, materials and supplies. Christal also ran into a financial hardship during the course of her training and KHPOP was able to assist with utility assistance to eliminate the barrier to successfully completing training. Christal also completed financial literacy and soft skills training.

Outcomes & Benefits

Christal completed her CMA training and was offered full time employed as a CMA earning $10.50 per hour. An LPN degree is Christal’s ultimate employment and training goal and she plans to continue on her career pathway in the future.
