Finding success all along the way

Workforce Challenge

Mark is a single father of 3 children who was struggling to support his family and going through a divorce. He came into the workforce center looking for help with a CNA class. At one time he was a biology major, but because of needing to support his family he kept having to stop classes. Mark expressed his desire to go back to school and finish FOR his family this time. He wanted to get his CNA so he could work while going to nursing school but he needed help to get there.

Workforce Solution

Because of Mark's situation he was a perfect fit for the KHPOP program. He attended two workshops, one on job search skills and one on career soft skills to help him find and retain employment. We had the opportunity to help him pay for his CNA class as well as the one pre-requisite class (Anatomy and Physiology) he will need to get into the nursing program. He will also be taking his CMA this spring.

Outcomes & Benefits

Mark is doing great in school and just passed his TEAS test with the highest score the college has seen in quite some time. He now has his CNA license and is currently job seeking while he waits to start his CMA class this spring. He has applied to nursing schools around the area and hopes to hear soon where he will be accepted. With the help of the WIA and KHPOP program Mark now has the opportunity to go farther in school than he first set out for when he came into the workforce center.
