Meet Terri

Workforce Challenge

Terri was laid off from a manufacturing plant in Smith Center, Kansas with very little options for employment. To get a job at self-sufficiency she would have had to drive quite a ways and with gas prices so high that was not affordable for her and her husband as he was laid off also.

Workforce Solution

Terri took a career assessment and it showed as she thought as she has always wanted to be a nurse. She needed a job quickly so she took a CNA class in October 2011 that WIA helped pay for and passed it with very high scores. She started working immediately after she got her CNA. She could not be self sufficient with just a CNA so she took her general education classes for the LPN and started the LPN program in August 2012.

Outcomes & Benefits

Terri completed her first semester of LPN with 3 A’s and 3 B’s. Her instructor says she is a very good student. Terri is very excited to complete the 2nd semester and get a job as an LPN.
