Meet Kristine

Workforce Challenge

Kristine a single mother of 5 was underemployed as a LPN and still receiving assistance and needed her RN for a self-sufficient wage for her family.

Workforce Solution

Kristine was referred by the Department for Children and Families. She had just completed her LPN with a 4.0 and she lived 1 hour from the nursing school she attended. Through the KHPOP grant we were able to enroll her in the RN program through North Central Kansas Technical College. Although this was going to be another hour drive every day Kristine was determined she was going to complete the RN program so she could support her children. Kristine drove every day for the entire semester while the KHPOP and WIA adult programs assisted her with basic allowance and transportation.

Outcomes & Benefits

Kristine completed the RN program with very high grades. She is now employed full time working for a hospital and is self-sufficient. She does plan to continue her education on her own as her time allows. Kristine said she could have never completed the RN program without the help of the the WIA and KHPOP programs. She is very thankful.
