Meet Rita

Workforce Challenge

Rita was working part time at the Dillon’s Fuel Center and struggled with finding full time employment. She had recently separated from her husband and was raising their two small children on her own.

Workforce Solution

Rita met with a WIA Employment Specialist at the Dodge City KansasWorks office in May of 2012 and expressed her interest in becoming an office administrative assistant. Her resume indicated that she had several years’ experience working in an office setting but she needed to update her computer skills. Her case manager helped her enroll in a 6 week computer course through a local college and set up an On the Job Training (OJT) opportunity with a local business.

Outcomes & Benefits

Rita completed a Computer Applications Course and became a full time billing clerk earning $12.00 per hour, including a benefit package. She works 8AM-5PM, Monday through Friday, and has the weekends off to spend with her children. Rita is very appreciative of the assistance that she received from her local workforce office.
