Workforce Challenge

Erica, a mother of two, wanted a stable career to help support her family. When first visiting the Workforce Centers of South Central Kansas, Erica was working part-time as a children's librarian earning slightly more than $8 per hour. Her family received state assistance to make ends meet.

Workforce Solution

Erica was interested in the Surgical Technology program and inquired about tuition assistance. The Workforce Centers helped Erica with tuition and she was accepted into the program at WATC. Erica completed the Surgical Technology program and earned her National Certification as a Surgical Technologist. Erica was referred to Dress for Success to obtain appropriate interview attire and the Workforce Centers’ Business Services Team helped her with access job posting, resume writing, and a mock interview.

Outcomes & Benefits

After several months of hard work, Erica obtained employment with a major healthcare provider as a Surgical Technologist earning more than $15 per hour.
