Workforce Challenge

Mary came to the Workforce Centers of South Central Kansas after a layoff. She sought training assistance to enhance her skills in the healthcare field. She had relevant work experience, but lacked the certificate and/or degree to match her skill set.

Workforce Solution

The Workforce Centers helped Mary with the financial assistance to receive her CNA and HHA certifications. Mary continued on a career pathway by completing her LPN prerequisite courses and was accepted into the LPN program at WATC.

While completing her training programs Mary’s unemployment benefits exhausted. The Workforce Centers helped Mary overcome many financial barriers including utility assistance, housing payments, and transportation. y was referred to a Job Coach in January 2013, as well as, worked with a Business Team Rep and Workforce Professional on job search activities.

Outcomes & Benefits

After receiving her LPN, Mary worked with a Career Coach and the Workforce Centers’ Business Services Team to obtain employment. Mary was hired full-time by a local company earning $16 per hour. Mary wishes to gain experience as an LPN and continue her career pathway towards an RN in the near future.
