Meet Lisa

Workforce Challenge

My name is Lisa Sobba. Currently I am living in Newton, but grew up in the town of Andale, KS. I started attending Hutchinson Community College in 2007 right after graduation from high school. During my second semester at HCC, I had to drop out due to a bad decision on my part but I did continue to work. I didn't realize the financial problems I would come across during this time. However, I completed my CNA and was able to find a job in the medical field, like I had always dreamed.

Workforce Solution

In 2011, I finally completed the pre-requisites for the LPN program and enrolled in HCC's program beginning in May 2012. A dream came true when I received the letter of acceptance into the program. In that same month, I also lost my job and found out I was pregnant with my second child. I couldn't imagine that I would have to give up this opportunity because of not being able to support myself and my children. After some researching I learned about the WIA program. I completed the process and I hoped. When I was notified I had been accepted for assistance, I couldn't have been more thankful.

Outcomes & Benefits

I graduated December 11th 2013 and now can finally say that I am a nurse, after completing my state board exam on December 14th! Without the help and encouragement of Danielle Atkinson and Breanna Novack ensuring that I get the entire aide I needed, I may not have been as successful completing this program during those 18 months. Thank you for being so supportive and never doubting me, and thank you WIA for affording me assistance during the time I needed it.
