Meet David

Workforce Challenge

David didn't quite know what was in store for him when he visited the Wichita Workforce Center for his initial TAA orientation session in August 2010. David had spent the last 13 years working as a Systems Design and Integration Specialist at Spirit. However, he had been laid off in April because of a massive cut in the company's Information Technology department.

Workforce Solution

Though David made good money he wanted to make a career change. Prior to visiting the center he had enrolled at Wichita State to study Health Science. Being eligible for TAA and WIA intensive services David was eligible for training assistance. In January of 2011 David started his per-requisite classes at WSU. TAA funded his tuition, fees, books, scrubs, equipment, background check, physical and immunizations, exam and graduation fees and all training fees. He was even provided guidance by his TAA case manager. In September of that year he was accepted into the school's nursing program for the Spring 2012 semester.

Outcomes & Benefits

In July 2013, David completed his training graduating Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from WSU. He received his nursing license from the State of Kansas that August followed by a job offer from Wesley (Medical Trauma Unit) in September completing what had been a three-year journey.
