Meet Kevin

Workforce Challenge

Kevin was laid off from his job with an aviation company. He did not have a degree and his prospects of finding another job were slim.

Workforce Solution

Through the Wichita Workforce Center, Kevin enrolled in a training program to earn an associates degree in Non Destructive Testing, a materials analysis technique often used in the aircraft and manufacturing industries. Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) funds paid for the tuition, books, and tools.

Outcomes & Benefits

After obtaining his degree, Kevin found work in the aviation field as a sheet metal assembler. Although the pay was slightly less in his new job, Kevin is receiving RTAA from the TAA program. RTAA is a wage subsidy to help Kevin with the wage gap from his old employer to his new employer.
