Meet Marie

Workforce Challenge

Marie was hired as a billing clerk for a local company shortly after high school. She felt secure in her position and decided not to further her education at the time. However, in 2009 the company changed ownership and the billing department was no longer needed. After working for the company five years Marie was in shock and knew she now had to further her education to find a job in the competitive job market. Marie enrolled in a certificate program to become a surgical technician.

Workforce Solution

Nearing her graduation Marie visited the Wichita Workforce Center and used resume creation software, searched KANSASWORKS for open positions, attended job fairs, and met with a career coach who helped her with mock interviews and to polish her resume.

"The Workforce Center help me create my resume and prepare me for the interview that would follow. This support made me successful in finding a job as a surgical technician, says Marie.

Outcomes & Benefits

Marie started training to be a Surgical Technician in August 2009. Less than one year later in June 2010, Marie was offered a position at Via Christi Health with a starting salary much higher than what she was making as a billing clerk. Marie has full benefits, a salary that allows her to support herself and a new career and employer about which she has only good things to say!
