Meet Kyle

Workforce Challenge

As a young single man Kyle, had worked at several entry level jobs in fast food but his real desire was to become a diesel technician.

Workforce Solution

After a visit to Kansas WorkforceOne, Kyle applied and was approved for enrollment in the WIA program. With WIA transportation support he was able to attend Northwest Technical College in Goodland, KS to earn his Associate Degree in Diesel Technology. Kyle drove round trip 76 miles, 5 days a week for 2 years. He could not have done it without some transportation assistance from WIA.

Outcomes & Benefits

Kyle graduated as a Diesel Technician. His first year out of school he earned over $40,000 and has received a nice pay increase which means he will earn more next year. According to Kyle, “If you have a good work ethic and will invest in good training, you can get a good paying job today in the diesel mechanic field. We have 13 technicians and are hiring more. I really appreciated all the help that WIA provided – with the price of gas, I wouldn’t have been able to do it without that support.” Congratulations, Kyle!
