Meet Cecilia

Workforce Challenge

Cecilia was laid-off from her job and lacked the necessary skills to find employment in her community. She needed training to boost her skills and become self-sufficient.

Workforce Solution

Through her local Kansas WorkforceONE office, a WIA Case Manager conducted career interests and skills assessments with Cecilia. Results indicated that the nursing field was a good fit for her. By training as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), she would be able to increase her income, and the training program was of relatively short duration. First, WIA funding helped Cecilia completetraining to be a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), which would allow her to work while she continued coursework towards her LPN degree.

Outcomes & Benefits

Cecilia has been working as a CNA, and in May, 2011 she will graduate LPN degree and be on her way to self-sufficiency. Congratulations, Cecilia!
