Meet Paula

Workforce Challenge

Paula was laid off from her job of almost 30 years. Her previous employer provided services through an employment company. However, she found success through the Susquehanna Workforce Network with her job search. Paula noted that it was a “breath of fresh air” – that for the first time since her layoff, she was treated as a person of value and that she knew she was in the hands of caring, trained professionals.

Workforce Solution

Paula received intensive services to help with her job search such as completing several workshops: Career Assessment, Job Search 101, Training Information, and Resume and Interview Tips. She revised her resume using a new format and created an employment portfolio. In addition, she updated her software skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and QuickBooks. Thease classes were funded by SWN.

Outcomes & Benefits

During an interview, Paula introduced the employment portfolio, which showcased her skills, work history, achievements, and letters of recommendations. This was very impressive for the employer, who remarked that Paula may have had the same qualities and experiences as others but the portfolio made an impression on him that could not be ignored. Within a week of the interview, Paula accepted his job offer.
