Meet Michael

Workforce Challenge

Mr. Michael Stavis (dislocated RG Steel Worker) was scheduled to meet with a Trade Counselor at the Hunt Valley Workforce Center in December of 2012. At the initial meeting with his Trade Counselor he was focused and had a plan to reach his employment goal as an Electrician.

Workforce Solution

During this time he provided information on employment opportunities and what qualifications he would need to obtain these jobs. Mr. Stavis also provided documents for the YTI Career Institute in which he would utilize to get his training. Prior to beginning his training he was assigned a Career Navigator. The Career Navigator informed Mr. Stavis of the services and resources available under WIA/NEG funding. (Workforce Investment Act/National Emergency Grant)

Outcomes & Benefits

Training began on February 11, 2013 for the Electrical Technology Program at YTI Career Institute. Mr. Stavis had 9 months of training. (3 three-month terms) He received a 4.0 GPA for each term. He was elected a member of the National Honor Society (Alpha Beta Kappa) chapter at YTI Career Institute Sigma Delta of Pennsylvania on November 13, 2013. Mr. Stavis received his diploma for Electrical Technology on October 29, 2013. He is now in work search mode and is contemplating relocating to Florida to be with his daughter.
