Meet Paul

Workforce Challenge

Paul has a Master’s degree in Management/Human Resources. He was laid off in June 2012 when the company he worked for closed. He worked as a Maintenance Technician and Pipe Fitter; he was also a Facilitator for the Joint Leadership Committee. He held all these positions and more at the same company.

Workforce Solution

Paul entered the Baltimore County Workforce Development Center in September 2012. He met with a Trade counselor who provided a full range of services which include career counseling and planning, job search assistance and training services. Initially, Paul was eager to find employment. He was very clear about not wanting to go back to school. As time progresses, it became difficult for him to find work.

Outcomes & Benefits

Conversely, Paul decided to pursue training at CCBC to earn his HVACR certification. He said, “I only want to take Fundamentals of HVACR.” His specialty was Maintenance; he just wanted a refresher course. Through the BCWDC, Paul got the training he desired. He completed his training in March 2013. One month later Paul started his new position as a Pump Stations Mechanic with Baltimore County.
