Workforce Challenge

Mr. Maynard was laid off from RG Steel in June, 2012 where he worked as a Basic Oxygen Furnace Operator along with operating cranes, forklifts and other heavy equipment. He maintained a safe work environment and kept required records.

Workforce Solution

In January, 2011 he began visiting DLLR Offices for registration and job search assistance. In August, 2012 he went to the Eastpoint Workforce Development Center and met with Ms. Jahmella Tucker of the NEG Staff who scheduled him a reading and math test. He later met with DLLR Job Service Specialist Dan Withey who emphasized the need to investigate Career options and do labor market research to provide a success career change outcome.

Outcomes & Benefits

Mr. Maynard decided on Diesel Technician training at North American Trade Schools.
He successfully completed the course and now has a job as a Chassis Mechanic with
Flexi-Van starting at 20.00 dollars per hour with benefits. The NEG staff provided funds to purchase tools that were required for his new career.
