Meet Sandra

Workforce Challenge

On June 22, 2012 Sandra Wright was laid off from RG Steel. She decided to participate in the Trade Program by filing a claim with the TRA Unit in September. Later she was given the opportunity to continue to work with RG Steel workers as the Elected Union Worker Officer with the United Steel Workers of America. In January of 2013 she was laid off from the United Steel Workers of America. At that time she was scheduled to attend a group session for RG Steel workers at the Eastpoint Workforce Center.

Workforce Solution

Ms. Wright met with a Trade Counselor soon after to discuss training options. She had conducted research and was prepared with training documents upon her first meeting. Ms. Wright had attended college previously and had passed the assessment to attend Fortis Institute for their Surgical Technology program. Not too long afterward Ms. Wright was scheduled to meet with a Career Navigator. Her Career Navigator reviewed services and resources that would be available under the WIA/NEG program. The services will include but not limited to, job search assistance, training research, labor market information and other supportive services that will assist with re-employment once training is complete.

Outcomes & Benefits

Ms. Wright has informed the Eastpoint Workforce Center that her training is going very well. She has been able to keep an A average in the previous 2 terms. She is looking forward to the new career opportunities.
