Meet Maurice

Workforce Challenge

Mr. Felder is a resident at the Westside Men’s shelter, Catonsville, MD. He had been unemployed since 2011, and was seeking employment. Case manager Anthony Smith was able to provide services to him such as résumé development, Job Search advice, and resource information. Anthony started assisting Mr. Felder on the MCC at the Westside Shelter in October, 2012. Mr. Felder consistently utilized the Mobile Career Center (MCC) when Anthony visited the shelter.

Workforce Solution

Anthony created a résumé for him, fully enrolled him in the MWE system, and also assisted him with creating an e-mail account. Mr. Felder was not very computer literate but consistently practiced his skills in checking his e-mail and navigating the MWE system for his job search. Mr. Felder was hired by Under Armour, Baltimore, MD (warehouse laborer) in February, 2014. As a result, Mr. Felder was able to secure permanent housing and will be moving to Baltimore City, which is close to his job.

Outcomes & Benefits

Some of Mr. Felder’s plans for his future are to complete high school and/or college, complete training program, get job, start an OJT program, conduct a mass recruitment, engage in incumbent worker training, etc. Mr. Felder is currently taking computer classes at Bon Secours, to work on his computer skill set.
